Unwelcome is the dizzying nature of the brain,
longed for is the thought devoid, inane;
the patter, quick feet; like thieves, hiding nuts
they ravage, and scavenge; shakily scurried, fluffy butts
clenched and scattered; clawed feet traverse the scab,
that is cedar’s pungent, sap-rich bark
perched and grandiose; gawking with nut-filled cheeks….
like nicotine, they reignite a neurological spark
when sun peeks into winter’s frosty house
Sanity’s tree is companied too
by a curiously tranquil lark
